New chapter

After two-year exploration on academic and professional spheres, I finally come into conclusion to which would be best fit for me. The exploration came down to all the efforts for both worlds. I redid the tests for graduate school because it has been more than five years since I was out from the school. Also, I did reach out to notable professors from all around the world to see if my interests will be good fit with theirs too. On the other side, I did a quite handful of initial discussions for getting new job in some industries from… number of places.

The pandemic has been a curse and bless in disguise, for me. Some of my extended family were in hospital because of the virus and I helped them taking care of supplies and household stuffs. I, myself, also caught the virus in November 2020 because I was exhausted juggling between working and hospital stress. In the 9th month of the pandemic, after extensive research and reading, I considered that the field that I was going into as dead-end one which I might spend years to dig in, just finding out that it is not necessarily applicable to real world. I didn’t want my research and process of thoughts just to end up becoming dusted books in library. Aside from my character that some people considered not suitable with the jobs in academia, I found that the academic world might not align with what I value at work. The amount of time for self reflection during the pandemic has brought me to realisation that it would be wise to cancel (or defer, perhaps) my initial plan going for doctorate degree.

It goes the same with another sphere, what feels unfulfilled about my job is because it doesn’t align with my values and my interests at work. As I recall how my parents work, I can’t imagine myself spending years until retirement working for this kind of job. After several attempts having interviews and back-and-forth discussions, I eventually found one that may be better suited with me. I hope this is going to be next chapter of my working life that I truly enjoy. Fingers crossed!
